honestly.. i don't think i could ever do it - anyone who has followed me on the boards here know that i am neither suicidal nor an apologist for that lot.
yet, having been off work for a few weeks now with surgical recovery, i have had time to make assessment of my future.

Sometimes I think that when we were a JW, we had people who thought exactly like us. We went to assemblies with people who were so brainwashed that we knew just how they thought after having hardly met them. Its different now because people are all different and it takes time to learn what kind of person they are.
This made a lot of sense to me. We "knew" people that we did many things with, including assemblies, which felt like spending a vacation with friends, or that we had cook outs with in the summer and so on.
I was lucky to find a non-JW man who had friends that became mine too. Later on, I made friends at various workplaces that have remained friends through the years. Then after having kids--well you can't help meeting people through the kids and their friends.
Jeff, in what part of Indiana are you located? We are in SW Michigan right at the IN state line, and if we are in close enough proximity to each other, maybe we could get that Aposta BBQ going this summer, even if it is just our two families....
And yes, the lack of sunshine, especially after a beautiful early March, is a spirit killer. Better days are coming, my friend.

Growing up JW
by startingover ingrowing up a jw, i was well aware that a lot of people didn't care for my religion, especially growing up in a strong catholic community in the 60's.
my being a jw wasn't something i advertised, especially in my school days.
but that feeling was always there, that i was someone, who because of my religion, was disliked, even hated.. i sit here thinking what it would have been like to have grown up without those feelings.

I also felt despised (probably my own perception) and not liked. Kids did make fun of me for having to leave the classroom for holidays, etc. As a result, I think it created a thick skin and the "dare to be different" attitude. I homeschool my kids and even though this is a wonderful way learn and grow, it sometimes is seen as weird or bucking the system by a few people. Due to my thick skin, I really don't care what people think. I have also taught my girls that living and thinking outside the box and being different in this way is a good thing.
Life as a JW kid was certainly not fun, but it did produce this character in me (among other things!).

The Day all Jehovah`s Witness`s are put into Concentration Camps!
by OUTLAW inwhen i was a kid,kingdom halls still had windows.thats a while ago..as a kid i was told in the last days,jehovah`s witness`s would be rounded up and be put into concentration camps..i was told,when the government came to take me away and seperate me from my parents,i should wear my warmest coat and boots.as i would have to fend for myself in the concentration camp..i was told never to give up my faith.even if they tied my parents to a stake and was foced to light the fire that would burn them alive.....jehovah`s witness`s are the "happiest people on earth!

Oh my cow! That was so funny! Our KH in the 70s had block windows, there was light but we couldn't see in or out. As children, we were always told to be obedient to the nth degree because there might come a time when we would be told to run or hide and it would mean our lives to do it immediately and without question. Sheesh, what a load of controlling, fear inducing crap!"ARMAGEDDON IS COMING! ARMAGEDDON IS COMING!!!"
I freaked out, running back to my parents in stark terror. Mom used to relate this experience with a snicker.

I remember the Truth book too, but mostly the Great Teacher book. We read through it 7 times in a row. This fact was mentioned from the platform. Parents were trying to prove we were a model witness family I guess.
